What is Environment Day?

Environment Day is celebrated on the 4th of April to remind people of the connection we have with the earth. Environmental sustainability is of paramount importance, as it is with everything we have. It’s also a great time to check out some eco-friendly ideas to make your home, car, and everyday products greener. The theme of this year’s event is the protection of the environment. So, there will be events and activities all around the world focused on that. You can officially participate in activities that are focused on saving the environment by reducing your footprint.

What is Importance

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of information and data out there about the environment and the environment’s effects on our daily lives. To make it easier, think about this question: What is the most important thing you can do to protect the environment and your family’s future?

Some of the most important eco-related things you can do are:

  • Use less water
  • There are over 1.3 billion people in the world, and we use around 70% of the water supply. This is a critical issue that needs attention.
  • Store food in better conditions – Eating out is a big problem, but it can be solved by having healthy home-cooked meals at home.
  • Choose renewable energy – There are lots of different types of renewable energy and more types of electricity coming soon.
  • Conserve energy – It’s important to conserve energy and minimize the time you’re using lights and appliances.

How to Save Our Environment

One of the easiest ways to help save the environment is to reduce the amount of waste you produce. Each day, we produce an estimated 15,000 dumpsters of waste. That’s a lot of plastic, waste, and other materials that could be saved from ending up in our landfills.

A garbage dumpster is not a safe place to put your trash; it’s a place to put waste that could potentially be harmful to our environment and our health. So, the first thing you can do to reduce the amount of waste you produce is to try to Recycle more.

When it comes to recycling, there are many different options:

  • Metal cans: Just throw these away. If you have old metal appliances, see if anybody wants them. If not, put them in a recycling program and donate them when you’re done.
  • Plastic bags: These should be avoided at all costs. If you have to use a plastic bag, try to use it once and then recycle it whenever you can.
  • Batteries: These can be used to help save the environment. However, they should be used correctly. If you don’t plan on using the battery again, try to use it up as soon as possible.

Don’t Waste Food

Wasting food is a problem that many people are guilty of. Sometimes we don’t notice how much we are throwing away because it is kept hidden in the cupboards or in the pantry. Whenever you buy a new item, such as a cereal box or bottle of sauce, check to see if it would go in the trash. This can help you avoid wasting money on things that are not necessary.

Just because something is food does not mean that it should go in the trash. There are many situations where you would use that item again and again, like in a slow-cooker dinner, in a school lunchbox, or as leftovers for the next day. Wasting food is a major contributor to global warming.

Don’t Use Plastic

Plastic bags are one of the biggest polluters of the environment; they take hundreds of years to break down and produce only tiny amounts of greenhouse gas. Bags that contain plastic belong in the household trash, not the oceans, and you should not wait until you are in an environment that has no plastic bag ban to start changing your plastic bag habits.

If you are not willing to change your habits now, you are definitely going to regret it in the long run. Plastic bags are not necessary and can be harmful to the environment. Try to use a cloth or paper bag if possible to reduce your impact on the environment. Plastic bags are not the problem, they are just one of the symptoms of a much larger problem.

Don’t Forget to Turn off the Lights

The outdoor lighting that we all rely on can be a big drain on the environment. Sure, it’s nice to be able to sit outside in the evening and look into the candlelight but leaving an unnecessary amount of light at the end of the day is not only inefficient but also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.

If you are not willing to change your habits now, you are definitely going to regret it in the long run. Let’s be real, you’re probably not going to change your habits and turn off the lights once in a while, but it’s one of those small things you can do to reduce your overall impact.

Plan Your Day Right

You are going to spend the majority of your day in your home, car, or office so it’s smart to plan ahead. Make sure you are turning off the lights and using the most efficient light fixtures in your home, car, or office. This will help you save both energy and money in the long run. The less energy you waste, the less you pay in the end.

Go for a Walk Instead of a Drive

We know walking is the next-best-thing-to-driving-a-motorbike but really, you should walk to work and to school. It’s better for the environment and will help you avoid being “parked” in the lot when you get there. Sure, you can walk to work or school and back some days but on others, you will have to drive. You are going to save on emissions and also help the environment.

Don’t Be So Heavy-Weight

We get it, being a lightweight athlete is great but for the environment, we need you to take a break from the runaround and take a full-weight circuit. If you are not willing to change your habits now, you are definitely going to regret it in the long run. Yes, it’s probably going to be a little more challenging but you will be doing yourself a huge favour in the long run by making this change.

Plan Your Diet Right

Planting a backyard organic garden is a great way to get involved in the environment. You will be using less water and fertilizers and eating more nutritious food. What’s not to love? How about eating more organic produce? The chemicals used in modern agriculture are harmful to the environment and your body. Try to increase your intake of fresh, organic vegetables and fruits.

Don’t Be a Road Hog

Every time you drive, you are taking away from the environment. Let’s be real, you don’t want to do this all the time but when you do, you are helping to build up traffic and make the roads less safe for pedestrians and cyclists. Sure, you are probably going to get a few parking tickets, but it’s still a small thing you can do to help the environment.

The Earth is in a state of criticality, meaning it is in a highly vulnerable and imminent state of environmental degradation. We must do everything we can to protect it. If you want to help, there are a few things you can do. First, protect the environment by taking less than what you think you need and using it more wisely. Second, be kind to your body by using healthy habits such as avoiding sugar and not smoking. Finally, be smart and use your brain by choosing an environmentally-friendly profession. If you are ready to show your support this Earth Day and help save the environment, then follow these eco-friendly tips and start living the green lifestyle today!
